Fatty Fatty Goodness

Fat has gotten a bad rap for quite a while now. Corpulent people aren't called "carby" or "sugary," they're called "Fat." And yet fat is one of the best things we can put into our bodies. Many fats are filled with amino acids, which our bodies use to process foods, convert nutrient cells to energy, and keep our cell tissue strong. Lack of enough amino acids can cause multiple health problems. Everything from brittle bones, to heart failure. Our body produces many necessarry amino acids on its own, but it still needs a healthy amount of fat to supply the rest. And transitive fat doesn't count. Eating chicken friend burrito burgers is not a good way to get your amino acids.

What IS a good way, is through omega 3 supplements. Omega 3 amino acids are some of the most important, and they regularly come as one a day fish oil supplements. Some people take flax seed, cod liver, or almond supplements as well, but sardine and salmon fish oils are two of the best sources. Omega 3's work for your brain, your heart, your memory cognition, and even help fight cholesterol and how to deal with stress. Many fish oil supplements also include omega 6 and omega 9 amino acids, but recent studies show the human body produces plenty 6's and 9's on its own.

All in all, whether fish oils or by other means, getting extra omega 3 fatty acids is an essential part of good nutrition.

Common Sources of Omegas

+ Most Fish: Salmon, freshwater, deep sea sardines

+ Flax Seed Oil

+ Nuts: Almonds, Cashews, Pecans (not peanuts!)

+ Small omega source from red meats

Omega 3 Vitamins and the Master Formula

Unfortunately, most good multivitamins like the Damage Control Master Formula do not contain omega 3 vitamins. This is because omega 3's usually come as fish oils and have a shorter shelf life (18months). A powder vitamin can often last for up to 4 years, but not with the addition of oils. Plus the capsule production would be more difficult. So, when you're looking for a multivitamin, double check to see if amino acids and omegas are included or not.

Omega-3 can be derived from several sources other than fish oil, you could also get them from algae and flax seed. Fish oil supplements provide the most economical supply of quality Omega-3s. They are important in proper brain, cardiac, and nerve function.
